Abstract Robert Frost was a great American writer in history and the poem “The Road Not Taken” was one of his brilliant works, from which we can find his complex attitudes towards life choice -- hesitation and perseverance. Through “The Road Not Taken”, the poet wanted to tell us that nature or life is powerful and cruel, leaving us countless choices. Even though we always don’t know which one is better, we have to choose among them and insist on what we choose. Hard-working and perseverance is the only way left for us. By analyzing Robert Frost’s life experience, this paper aims at probing into the philosophy implied in this poem 32189

摘要罗伯特•弗罗斯特是美国历史上一位伟大的诗人。从他的诗歌《未选择的路》中我们可以探寻到他对人生道路中面临选择的复杂感情-- 充满疑问，难以抉择，但又不得不坚定向上。通过这首诗，诗人想告诉我们这样一个结论：自然与人生都是有力且残酷的，单凭一己之力总是难以抗衡。面对数之不尽的人生选择，我们从不知晓通往何处、何为上上之选。身处其中，我们只能不断做出选择，选择后就必将坚持，这是我们不得不走的道路。本文结合作家生平经历，剖析其对自然与人生的复杂感情与坚定执着，研究该诗中所蕴含的鲜为人知哲理内涵。这首诗看似简单，但每一次细心地研读都会使读者挖掘得更深，发现许多盘曲的小径、许多不同的感受。本文的研究正是关注其中深刻的意义与感受。

Complex Attitudes towards Life Choice－Appreciation of Robert Frost’s “ The Road Not Taken”
Introduction
Robert Frost was one of the most popular and important poets in America during the 20th century. Back to that time, he made a living as a cobbler, a teacher and then a farmer. He hadn’t been famous and well-known until 1914, when he was almost forty years old. Even though he lived a bitter life before, he never gave up creating poems which exactly was his dream. Without doubt, facing so many choices in the lifetime, just like normal people, Frost had his own hesitation and struggle -- without knowing which one is right or which one is better.
However, eventually, he succeeded in those choices one by one because he, following his heart, was willing to insist, just like his choosing the road in a yellow wood after a lot of hesitation and consideration in his great poem “The Road Not Taken”. The images of wood and roads represent life and the choices in the real world. During this long time, the arguments and analysis of this poem never stop. Most people think that the focus of this poem is to choose the road less traveled by, even though it is difficult and hard. I approve of this kind of opinion and apart from that, the action after making choice mattered most to the writer and the rest of us.
As far as I am concerned, with all the complex struggle, Robert Frost paid much attention to the attitude towards our own choices, especially after we had chosen them. Perseverance, rather than re-thinking or re-consideration again and again really plays a key role in our daily life.
