1.1 The Background of the Research
Nowadays, “culture goes global” is one of the China’s main cultural strategies, which means that we should introduce more Chinese traditional cultures to foreign countries. As we all have known, the classics of a country bear a lot of traditional cultures and reading the classics is one of the most convenient methods through which we can learn cultures. The Romance of Three Kingdoms is one of the most well-known Chinese novels. The translation of it into English makes great contributions to the introduction of Chinese traditional cultures to foreigners, especially to people whose mother tongue is English.
There are a large number of appellation words applied in The Romance of Three kingdoms to describe the characters and their status. The Chinese appellation and English appellation are very different in their use and classification. So the translation of the appellation in The Romance of Three Kingdoms is a very complicated process, which is worth to be investigated.
1.2 The Significance of the Research
Many studies concerning the translation of the appellation in The Romance of Three Kingdoms do not have a general translation theory as a support.
