This thesis falls into five chapters. Chapter one serves as the introduction to the thesis including background of the study, significance and the organization of this thesis. Chapter two focuses on the definitions of idioms in English and Chinese, and the significance of the idioms with animal images. Chapter three gives a brief introduction to the factors that causing different animal images and based on what have found pided animal idioms into three categories. Chapter four mainly elaborates the corresponding translation methods of animal idioms. Many kinds of animals are involved in idioms so that analyzing them one by one is impractical, thus this chapter will take some familiar animals such as cats, dogs, monkey, bull for example, to analyze the animal image and image shifts. Due to the idioms with animal images containing rich cultural characteristics, the translation is not easy. Translation is the expression in another language (or target language) of what has been expressed in another (source language), preserving semantic and stylistic equivalences (Bell 5). It is need to understand the cultural background first and adopt appropriate strategies to make image shifts, in order to faithfully convey the metaphorical meaning of the original idioms and make the translation vividly in the target language. 浅析英汉成语互译中的动物形象转换(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_32070.html
