1.2 Thesis structureThere are four parts in this article. The first part introduces the research background andthesis structure of this article. It introduces that China is a country which is famous for itstourism. And the translation of culture-loaded words in the tourism texts is necessary. Theauthor choose Hangzhou as the sample. And the author collected some translations from thetourism texts during the G20 summit. In the thesis structure, the author introduced the contentof each paragraph.Second paragraph introduces the culture-loaded words and their translation. It includesthe definition of culture-loaded words. And from the research, the author found theclassification and the feature of the culture-loaded words. The author also gave someexamples for each kind. Next the author introduced the translation of culture-loaded wordsdepends on domesticating and foreignzing and culture equivalence. Then the authorintroduced the reason to do research on the translation of culture-loaded words. And from theprevious work, the author got some strategies for the translation. And each strategy has someexamples.In the third part, the author choose Hangzhou as the sample to do the research on theculture-loaded words in the tourism texts. First introduced the main classification ofculture-loaded words in Hangzhou tourism texts. Then find some typical culture-loaded words,and analysis their translation. Find the advantages and disadvantages of these translation. Finally, put up some suggestions for the disadvantages.The forth part is the conclusion, in this part the author introduced the summary of theprocess and the result of the research. Then put up with the limitation of the translation ofculture-loaded words in tourism texts, in the end give some suggestions for the limitation.2
. Culture-loaded words & their translationCulture-loaded words contains the history and custom of China, the translation ofculture-loaded words is becoming more and more important. These translations often dependson domesticating and foreignzing and culture equivalence.2.1 Culture-loaded wordsCulture-loaded words can reflect the culture, history and custom of China, and there aremany kinds of culture-loaded words.
2.1.1 Definition of culture-loaded wordsCulture is a social phenomenon which is very complicated, it could not be easily defined,it contains knowledge, experience, values and religious culture of a nation (高瑛 2015).It hasdistinct nationality and territoriality and it acts on all field of a certain society. Language isjust a part of culture, but every language can be a reflection of some kind of culture. Languageis the carrier of culture, and they depend on each other(朱益平 2005). Both English andChinese languages have long history, but they belong to completely different languagesystems. These differences not only occur in the form of language, but also in the differentvocabulary which shows the extraordinary culture.(袁翠 2000) Language is a product whichwas created by a nation in the period of production and social practice, therefore their wordsshould reflect their national reality, and should be restricted by local national life style, bytheir way of thinking, by the code of conduct, by their values and by their traditional culture(陈晓丹 2010). In a consequence, English and Chinese words must has their specific culturalconnotation. Some words contain some specific cultural connotations, or carry some specificcultural signification(宋华 2012). These words are called culture-loaded words. There aremany kinds of culture-loaded words, each kind of them has specific characteristic
.2.1.2 Classification and feature of culture-loaded wordsThe study of languages has rich contents. It refers to a kind of language which can onbehalf of the forming process of a culture; it also refers to history and traditional custom andgeographical landscape style.There are some kinds of culture-loaded words:(1) Ecology culture-loaded words, which refers to some plants, animals, climates andgeography and so on(宋华 2012).For example, in the Chinese poem “寸寸河山寸寸金”, “寸寸” is a special word to describe Chinese landscapes.(2) Material culture-loaded words. The main components of this kind of word refer tosome necessities such as clothing, food, housing and transportation.
