Abstract Since the novel Dead Poets Society was published, it has triggered a heated comments and analyses from scholars and critics, and most research is carried out from the aspects of teaching inspiration, poetry creation ,regulations and disciplines analyses, films comparison and so on. However, this paper briefly introduces the current researches on Dead Poets Society at home and abroad firstly.The creation reasons and meaning of this thesis are employed later. Moreover,it emphasizes on the students’ growth changes and the reasons for them,which reflects the impact of traditional education, family education, teachers’ quality and students’ personal characteristics on young people’s growth. Based on this, reasonable suggestions are put forward against government education institutions, traditional school education, family education and personal improvement.Since contemporary education model at home and abroad still has many shortcomings, it has far-reaching meaning to explore the improvement and reasons during students' growth period.59071

摘要《死亡诗社》自出版之日起就引发了国内外学者及文学评论家的评析,多数研究是从教学启发、诗歌创作、规则与权力分析及电影比较等方面进行。本文则首先介绍了《死亡诗社》目前的研究现状,进而点明本文的研究原因和意义。此外,从学生的成长变化角度分析其原因,反映传统学校教育、家庭教育、教师素养及学生个人性格特征对青少年成长的影响,提出合理性建议。当代中西方教育仍然存在诸多弊端,因而探究学生成长变化具有深远意义。

1. Introduction
Dead Poets Society is a thought-provoking novel of Kleinbaum N.H. published in 1989. Since its publication, scholars and critics at home and abroad have done many researches reflected in Dead Poets Society. The studies of Dead Poets Society mainly focus on four aspects: education methods, teacher’s quality, psychoanalysis and post-modernism. These studies are undoubtedly very helpful and valuable in deepening people’s understanding of the novel and pushing forward the academic progress. However, they have not included all the aspects of the significance in the novel. The improvement of students and reasons for it is rarely employed to analyze the novel. Students growing problem is a critical theory developed in recent years. Grounded on the improvement of students and reasons for it, this thesis will make an analysis from two perspectives--students’ improvement and their respective reasons in Dead Poets Society. Finally, it offers some possible solutions for people to consider. It is true that few masters’ researches on this topic have ever been found from home and abroad.
