1. Introduction

Amy Tan is a Chinese American writer, whose works focus on mother-daughter relationships.

Amy Tan was born in February 19, 1952, in Oakland, California. She has experienced the same kind of conflicts which she portrayed in the novel. Her mother Daisy, who was forced to leave her three daughters from a previous marriage behind in Shanghai, arrived in America two years later and got married to John Tan. Tan grew up surrounded by influence from both Chinese and American cultures: at home, she was a typical Americanized teenager at odds with her traditional Chinese parents’ expectations; at school, she was always isolated as the only Chinese girl in the class.

Amy Tan has written several other bestselling novels, including The Kitchen God's Wife and The Hundred Secret Senses. In addition to these, Tan has written two children's books: The Moon Lady (1992) and Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat (1994).

The Joy Luck Club is Amy Tan’s representative works, which is a masterpiece in Chinese-American literature. It has been translated into 35 languages and won her great fame and occupied upon best-seller list of New York Times for nine months. According to her own experience, Amy Tan presented to readers the relationships between four Chinese immigrant mothers and their daughters in the novel.源[自*优尔^`论\文"网·www.youerw.com/ 从《喜福会》看中美文化差异与交融:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_64243.html
