1 Introduction
1。1 Research Background
Traditionally, when it comes to metaphors in Shakespeare’s tragedies, most studies regarded the use of metaphors as a figure of speech。
In 1980, Lakoff and Johnson published the book Metaphors We Live By, which was the first academic works to regard metaphor as an important means of cognition and thoughts (Yang, 2011)。 Thus, metaphor became an inalienable part of cognitive linguistics。 In this book, they defined the use of metaphor as a means of “understanding and experiencing one kind of thing in terms of another” (Lakoff & Johnson, 2003, p。 6)。 With the development of cognitive linguistics, there appears a trend of applying the cognitive linguistic theories to literary analysis and criticism。 As a result, cognitive linguistics extends to the analysis and criticism of literary works。 However, there isn’t much research about cognitive metaphors in Shakespeare’s works。 Taking this into consideration, interpreting the cognitive metaphors in Shakespeare’s works and their translation is worth efforts and time。论文网
As is known to all, Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays。 In addition, Macbeth employs a great number of metaphors。 There have been many Chinese versions of Shakespeare’s works, among which Zhu Shenghao’s translation stands out。 To narrow down the topic, the research would focus on the analysis of metaphors in Macbeth and Zhu Shenghao’s translation。
1。2 Significance of the Study
Reviewing the present studies and research, though cognitive linguistics is playing a more and more important role in literary analysis, it seems that most researchers have not paid much attention to classical literary works。 Metaphor is widely used in Macbeth, and Zhu Shenghao has a unique way to translate metaphors。 Therefore, analyzing metaphors in Macbeth and their translation in Zhu Shenghao’s version will be of academic value and realistic significance。 朱生豪译本《麦克白》中隐喻翻译的认知学分析(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_84864.html
