Eugene。 Nida’ Functional Equivalence Theory was applied in this paper which discussed the translation of corporate publicity texts, and take full account of the core idea of “Receptor’s Response” in order to get rid of the original Chinese detention thinking and consider the English language habits of expression。 And the definition of functional equivalence translation is “the closest natural equivalent to source-language message。” In recent situation, the significance of this study is to compare the different between China and West countries publicity texts, analyze their features and conclude the useful translation methods to guide the Chinese-English corporate publicity materials。 And the functional equivalence theory can provide the theoretical basis to guide that practice well。文献综述

This paper contains five parts。 The first part is introduction, which is mainly talking about the background, significance and framework of this paper。 The second part contains a brief introduction of functional equivalence theory。 The third part explores the application of functional equivalence in the translation of enterprises publicity texts。 And the fourth part is some strategies which can provide some suggestions for C-E translation of publicity texts。 Finally, the last part is conclusion。

II。 Basic Concepts About Functional Equivalence Theory

2。1 Functional Equivalence Theory

Nida, American famous translation theorist proposed functional equivalence theory, which has a profound impact on translation filed of domestic and foreign countries。 Nida first came up with the “formal equivalence” and “dynamic equivalence” from Toward a Science of Translating in 1964。 “Formal equivalence”, which was concerned about the information itself, includes the form and content of information。 It is designed to reveal as much as possible of the form and content of the original message。 In contrast with formal-equivalence translation others are oriented toward dynamic equivalence。 In such a translation the focus of attention is directed, not so much toward the source message, as toward the receptor response(Liu 75)。 Whereas, “dynamic equivalence” is emphasized to transmit the original text with the most appropriate and natural equivalent language, and take the form in the second place。 This equivalent theory demonstrates the thought of Nida, that is, the equivalence of response rather than equivalence of form。来:自[优E尔L论W文W网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766-

And then, in order to avoid having one-sided thought of “dynamic equivalence” for some people, Nida started to further research and contemplation。 In his famous book From One Language to Another, he proposed a more scientific and more complete theory on the basis of “dynamic equivalence” and then replaced this expression as "functional equivalence"。 It is important to realize that functional equivalence is not merely another message which is more or less similar to that of the source。 It is a translation, and as such must clearly reflect the meaning and intent of the source(Nida 89)。 And he also considered that translation should achieve the equivalence of language style and literary form in order to play the same function as the original language。 In the mean time, functional equivalence theory emphasized that the commentary of receptor language should be linked to the receptor’s response(Liu 75)。 This theory changed the thought to the “Receptor’s Response”, and alleviated the weight of correspondence between source language and receptor language。
