Abstract The template-oriented synthesis methods to self-assemble ordered molecular structures have widely used in the preparation of new chemical species and it has also become an effective strategy to construct porphyrin nanorings with high complexity。 A porphyrin monomer was firstly coordinated with center metal salt to furnish a metalloporphyrin。 Several metalloporphyrin molecules were then binded with a carefully selected template via supramolecular interactions to build a preorganized precursor, which then react each other, to form the final cyclic multiporphyrin structure。 On the basis of reviewing the recent breakthroughs in the template-oriented synthesis methods and new structures of porphyrin or metalloporphyrin nanorings, and their applications in host-guest chemistry and artificial light-harvesting, we utilized a template-oriented method to prepare a new water-soluble porphyrin nanoring。
