Abstract Some problems are glaring in primary school oral English teaching, despite the national and local efforts to implement the communicative approach in English teaching。 These problems consist of students having different levels, lack of English oral practice, and inadequate teaching resources, among others。 By means of two questionnaires, the survey finds that although both teachers and students have positive attitude towards speaking English, their English communication ability is unsatisfactory。 The reasons are many-fold。 In order to solve the problems, some recommendations are made according to the survey。91731

1。 Introduction
In recent years, the traditional primary school English teaching method, because of its old content, formal rigidity and other reasons, is generally questioned by teachers and students。 With the popularization of oral English teaching, communicative approach is considered highly valuable。 It emphasizes the communicative function of a language, and introduces large number of communicative activities in learning English。 Listening and speaking are considered more important than reading and writing。 However, in the actual teaching, it is found that although students have positive attitude, their English communication ability is unsatisfactory。 When using this method in teaching, students are thought to be more interested in learning。 It will create an active classroom atmosphere and students are willing to read and speak, but not to write。
