2。2 Brief introduction of A Bite of China
A Bite of China is a Chinese record channel launched the first high-end food series documentary, and is the first use of HD equipment to shoot the large food documentary。 In the domestic shooting of 60 sites, covering Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland and its other regions, it displayed all aspects of the broad and profound Chinese food culture。 It showed the overseas audiences the changes and the differences in thousands of ways of diet and their unique aesthetic tastes, and rice which reflects the Oriental wisdom, and allow the audiences from the diet culture to understand tradition and change in China。 Hu Zhanfan, the director of A Bite of China, emphasized that the purpose of the documentary was to introduce China to the world。 So to achieve the aim, it’s essential to translate the caption of A Bite of China。
The documentary is pided into seven episodes, including the Gifts from Nature, the Story of Stable Foods, Inspiration for Change, the Taste of Time, Secrets of the Kitchen, A Perfect Blend of Five Flavors, and Our Farm。 The Chinese version appeared poetic and lyric。 It’s a big challenge for translators, because they must fully understand the seven episodes and Chinese culture reflected in the documentary。

It was reported by “The 2012IPTV User Behavior Data Analysis Report”(fig。2。1) that on the first day when A Bite of China was aired on national television station, it successfully drew 0。1521% ratings with great attention from the public and the following days during the period of which it was aired also showed its enormous attraction for the audience all over the nation (the 19th and the 20th day of May were weekends and the program was not aired during that time, so the data on these two days were not recorded)。Then on the 21th day of that month the rating of the last but one episode was lower than average one, but that of the final episode did rise up to a higher one, keeping fantastic rating eventually。
Although there were ups and downs of the ratings over the course of its on-air tenure, it in general proved attractive to the majority of the audience。 Because the first-run broadcast with a good evaluation has set up a stable foundation for its rebroadcast。 From the fig。2。2, we can see clearly that ratings of this program in this integrated channel: the period from May 14th to May 22th was its first-run broadcast from 22:40 to 23:36, and the span from May 15th to May 22th 18:02 to 19:00 was its second-run broadcast; then from May 15th to May 23th during the time from 22:00 to 23:00 and from May 23th and May 29th it was aired at the third time。 It was aired on CCTV without intervals, in order to attract the audience to the most degree, resulting in its high ratings。
And the second broadcast has obtained the highest rating for it was aired before the news network show and when family members gathered to enjoy their rich lunch。 And the third broadcast has aroused the widest attention for the good reputation earned from previous two broadcasts。
