The Effect of Topic Interest on Middle School Students’ Performance of Passage Retelling
Abstract This article focuses on if Chinese middle school students of English proficiency level 4 can improve their performance of passage retelling by learning passages with topics they are interested in。 It is based on an empirical study by means of a 16-week comparative experiment carried out in two Chinese EFL classrooms。 There are two groups that are experimental group and control group respectively。 The experimental group was required to do post-task, that is, to retell passage with high topic interest, while control group was required to retell passages with comparatively low topic interest。 The degrees of topic interest from high to low are ranked by students themselves。88343

话题兴趣对于中学生篇章复述的影响
摘 要本文主要研究英语课标水平四级的中国中学生在学习有话题兴趣的文章时,他们的文章复述表现能否进步。文章以一个实证研究为基础,它通过一个在两个英语学习的班级进行十六周的对照实验。实验中有两个组别,分别是实验组和对照组。实验组要求在课堂中的后任务环节复述有较强话题兴趣的文章,而对照组则要求复述相对较弱话题兴趣的文章。话题兴趣的强弱程度由学生们自己划分。

Middle school students can retell passages。 There are several factors influencing the performance of retelling passages, such as topic interest, previous knowledge, ability of understanding and so on。 In addition, retelling a passage is an effective way to examine the capability of comprehension and language output。 However a wide-spread problem in fact is that they have difficulty in remembering the general meaning of the passage so that it may reduce the chance for them to speak out。 It is well-established that students will be demotivated to do it if they retell simply for the sake of retelling, and only when they feel eager to retell will they make a remarkable progress, for example when they get interested in the reading material。From~优E尔L论E文W网wWw.YoUeRw.com 加QQ7520.18766
