Although there are many researchers studying the character of Heathcliff based on various kinds of themes and some scholars have labelled Heathcliff as a Byronic hero, this paper aims at studying the characteristics of Heathcliff that well match the feature of a Byronic hero and argues that Heathcliff is a typical Byronic hero in Wuthering Heights。 To prove this point, firstly, I trace the origin of Byronic hero and analyze its typical characteristics。 Secondly, I analyze the characteristics of Heathcliff as a Byronic hero。 Finally, I explore the causes of the formation of Heathcliff’s character from the aspect of social background and family atmosphere。 A completely and in-depth analysis about Heathcliff is essential for us to understand the novel well。 And analysis from a multi-perspective can give readers more enlightenment。
