That is to say, body language refers to a series of body behavior language which is used to convey one’s ideas or feelings and transmit cultural information。 When people communicate with each other, in addition to the exchanges of verbal information, there are often a variety of body movements, such as eyes, gestures and so on(non-verbal information)。 Body language is a series of complete, clear, and stylized symbol in a certain cultural background。 Therefore, it is the result of cultural acquisition and an important part of culture along with the verbal language。 At the same time, body language is the external manifestation of these behavior patterns under the influence of different cultural environment。 Only when we understand the body language completely can we make better use of it in English classroom teaching。
2。2 Functions of body language in English classroom teaching
In communication, the use of body language helps to enhance the effect of language expression。 And a variety of gestures to display the content often are adapted by teachers when teaching English in lessons。 The combination of gesture and voice can help students understand and master knowledge visually。 With regard to the role of body language in English teaching, teachers of different subjects have made the full elaboration and the explanation。 It can be summarized as the following aspects: help to organize teaching; enhance the feelings between teachers and students; stimulate learning interest; highlight the focus of teaching; regulate teaching process; cultivate students’ ability of thinking expression and imitation; teaching implication。 The following is a brief introduction to the special role of body language in English teaching which is different from other subjects。

The organization of English lessons in the classroom can be summarized into the following three forms: classroom language; classroom language + body language; body language。 In these three forms, there are two kinds of body language, which can be seen in the role of English teaching。 We know that the current English class emphasizes the students as the main body and attach importance to the practice of students rather than “spoon feeding” explanation。 The purpose of teaching is to improve the skills of students。 Therefore, the organization of the classroom activities around the students can be designed for pair work (two groups of practice), group work (small group activity), chain work (chain training), etc。
Demonstration function
Teachers’ appeal is an important aspect of teachers’ quality。 It includes the use of voice and intonation, and the use of body language。 The proper use of body language can help students deepen their understanding of the relevant knowledge, so as to improve the students’ interest in learning, arouse their desire to perform, and enhance their enthusiasm to participate in classroom activities。 The exemplary role of teachers in the English class is mainly reflected in the role of dialogue and the performance of the demonstration of the text reading。
