Abstract Many critics pay much attention to Bertha Mason, one of the female characters of the beloved classic novel Jane Eyre。 She is always seen as a stumbling block of Jane's happy marriage or demonized and marginalized。 The image is not re-interpreted until the feminism rises。 In fact, both Jane and Bertha are brave resister in male-dominated society, and this thesis focuses on Jane and Bertha’s rebellions。 By analyzing their rebellion behaviors and reasons, it can be concluded that most of Jane’s rebellions are reasonable, while Bertha’s are unreasonable。 Modern women learn from this thesis that they can receive personality independence through education and financial independence。94799

Since it was published, it has drawn much attention from critics and ordinary readers。 Most people have been focusing on the main female character Jane for a long time。 They believe she isn’t deterred by poverty and bravely fights against her destiny。 Most people praise her for her valorous resistances and fights for freedom and equal status。 As research continues, a growing number of people pay attention to another female character Bertha Mason。 Originally, studies about Bertha are often too simple, hasty and arbitrary。 With the rising feminism, many critics think that Bertha is also a brave resister and her resistances are fierce and desperate as a victim of male-dominated society。 Both Bertha and Jane are courageous resisters oppressed by that society, but they have distinct endings。 It is clear that there are differences between their rebellions。 This thesis mainly explores Jane and Bertha’s rebellions from the perspective of reasonable and unreasonable。 By analyzing Jane and Bertha’s rebellions, it can be learned that as modern women, we should be brave enough to revolt, learn positive things from life experience and keep receiving education and educating ourselves。 This thesis begins with Jane and Bertha’s rebellions and then compares their rebellions。 By analyzing reasons, it can be concluded that education is very important for modern women。
