    摘 要农村中学英语教学存在许多问题,比如师资严重短缺,教学环境差,教学设备不齐全。本文结合作者亲身实践经验以及实地调查当前农村英语教学现状,分析出当前农村英语教学所面临的挑战和问题,进而提出解决这些问题的合理对策。同时,作者希望通过该研究能够唤起社会各界对农村英语教育给予足够重视,从而提高农村中学英语的教学水平。31192

    Abstract Many problems exist in English teaching in rural junior middle schools,such as the  insufficient teaching staff, the problems of the ineffective teaching environment and the inadequate teaching equipment. This paper will analyze the challenges and problems in rural middle schools by personal experiences and the virtual investigation about the present English situation in rural areas. Then, some reasonable solutions are suggested to deal with the challenges. It is hoped that social concerns could be aroused to emphasize on the rural English teaching and improve the rural English teaching consequently.

    I. Introduction
    English is becoming common among us nowadays. English teaching’s purpose is to help students master the skills of communication in English in our daily life. In 2007, a new National English Curriculum has been carried out by the Ministry of Education in our country. Thus English teachers have to face lots of new challenges and they need to take some measures to deal with the requirements of the latest National English Curriculum. The new National English Curriculum made a standard for English teaching of middle schools. It aims to develop students’ comprehensive abilities in using the language. Teachers help students learn English by discussing, thinking, communicating and cooperating, and students learn to master the language rules through observing, discovering and inducting, form effective learning methods through experiencing, practicing and cooperating, get English language knowledge and skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, increase the awareness of the culture differences between the East and the West, and broaden their horizon.
    English teachers are confronted with many new challenges to meet the demands of the new National English Curriculum, especially for those who are in rural middle schools. In English teaching, rural middle schools have more difficulties compared with city middle schools. They are faced with many problems such as, inadequate government funding, lack of excellent teachers and students’ lack of interest in learning English.
