Abstract
With the development of Internet age and society, word is a major tool of human communication nowadays. More and more foreigners are starting to show great interests in Chinese word. Recent years many Chinese fresh words are created by people always stay in the Internet. Foreigners are especially interested in these groups of words. Consequently, the research on Chinese fresh words’ translation is started to attract some attention. Translation of Chinese fresh words has become a new branch of translation practice.
Nida’s theory of functional equivalence is applicable in translation of Chinese fresh words. This thesis discusses the possibility and necessity of the application of functional equivalence theory in translation of Chinese fresh words. According to Nida, what is important in functional equivalence is that the extent to which receptors of the target text correctly understand and appreciate the translated text compared to the receptors of the original text. This is considered as the highest criterion of translation.
The thesis then focuses on how to realize functional equivalence of translation of Chinese fresh words, what kind of specific translation strategies should be used and how to deal with cultural problems. The thesis also sets many examples. A conclusion is made that no matter what strategies or method is adopted, the major task for translation is to make the target people understand the Chinese fresh words and get a similar response compared to the people in China.
In the end, Nida’s functional equivalence can provide a new approach and enlightenment in some special words translation as well as solutions to many questions. However, functional equivalence is not always applicable in Chinese fresh words’ translation as in some cases it is very difficult to achieve functional equivalence. Therefore, what matters most in Chinese fresh words’ translation is whether translators can understand what the social and cultural impact on the original language.

摘要随着网络和社会的不断发展,不同的词汇是当今人类文化的主要交流途径。越来越多的外国人开始对中国的词汇产生浓厚兴趣。近年来,中国的互联网中诞生了许多新兴词汇,这些新兴词汇在老外们眼中也是非常有趣的,非常多的外国人对这些词汇产生了浓厚兴趣。因此,如何将这些词汇进行翻译让外国人能感受体会到我们的文化渐渐开始吸引人们的眼球。中国新兴词汇的翻译已经成为翻译实践中的一个新的分支。
奈达的“功能对等”理论是很适合于中国新兴词汇的翻译的。本文先论述了把“功能对等理论”运用到新兴词汇翻译的可能性和必要性。功能对等理论将译文读者与原文读者在阅读过程中的反应是否对等作为衡量翻译的最高标准,所以外国人在阅读中国新兴词汇的英译时应该也和我们有同样的反应。
本文接着从具体翻译策略,从新兴词汇中对文化所涉及到的翻译信息进行分析,通过举列分析了新兴词汇的翻译如何达到动态对等。最后文章得出结论,无论用何种翻译策略和翻译方法,新兴词汇翻译的首要任务就是让外国人在阅读的时候可以更好地看懂词汇的意思,可以让他们和我们有相似的反应。
