摘 要阅读速度作为阅读能力的重要表征之一受到了广泛的关注。至于英语阅读速度,拥有快速阅读能力的人很可能拥有较好的阅读理解能力。但是提高英语阅读速度存在很多障碍。这篇论文从两个层面分析了提高英语阅读速度的主要障碍:语言因素层面和非语言因素层面。前者包括词汇障碍,语法障碍和文章结构障碍。而后者则包括阅读动机和心理,文化背景知识,阅读习惯,理解能力等方面的障碍。根据对主要障碍的分析,有一些克服这些障碍的对策以帮助学生们提高英语阅读速度。从而揭示出提高英语阅读速度的主要障碍是复杂而多样的,并存在克服障碍的对策。希望这篇论文有利于帮助学生提高英语阅读速度36677

Abstract The reading speed as important manifestation of reading ability has been widely concerned. Those who have a higher reading speed may have a better reading comprehension ability. However, there are many obstacles to improving English reading speed. This thesis analyzes the major obstacles to improving English reading speed in two aspects: the language factors and non-language factors. The former includes vocabulary, grammar and article structure obstacles. The latter includes the cultural background, reading habit and comprehension obstacles. According to the analysis of the major obstacles, there are some countermeasures to overcome the obstacles to help students to improve their reading speed. Accordingly, it reveals that the major obstacles to improving English reading speed are complex and various, and there are some countermeasures to overcome them. Hopefully this paper will be beneficial to help students to improve their English reading speed..

I. Introduction
Reading in any language is viewed as cognitively demanding, involving the coordination of attention, memory, perceptual processes, and comprehension processes (Kern 139). In daily life and teaching practice, it will be found that many factors have an effect on students’ reading abilities, and students may often come across such difficulties as limited vocabulary, lack of cultural background knowledge, bad reading habits and the background information with regard to the context and so on. Therefore, good reading techniques and effective teaching methods are very essential to achieve better reading effects. But at first, we should focus on the English reading speed, which is a concentrated expression of vocabulary, grammar, and cultural background knowledge in all aspects of capacity. But according to research surveys in recent years, the student’s reading level is generally poor. Thus, a serious challenge our country facing is how to improve their English reading speed.
