II A Comparison of English Teaching Between Rural and Urban Areas
Rural education is one of the important factors which are related to the level of education in English There is a big gap between rural education and urban education One of the priorities of the new curriculum reform is to balance the development of urban education and rural English education In the ten years of the reform, English teaching in rural secondary schools has been greatly improved and has achieved certain results, but what cannot be ignored is that there are many factors restricting the English teaching development of middle school in rural areas Through observation we can find that the environment of rural education and urban education are not the same There is a deviation of teachers’ welfare benefits The rural teaching staffs are not more than the urban teaching staffs in the whole The atmosphere of English learning is poorer in the rural than in the urban The rural students use little knowledge of English in real life The practicability of English isn’t broad in the rural According to these reasons, the students in their thought do not play attention to learning English Finally, the students’ learning initiative and enthusiasm are not high Their economic strengths are different So their teaching conditions are different The leaderships of rural middle school are not pay attention the English education So, it leads to a serious loss of the middle school English teachers Some of the English teachers give up teaching and go for business, and a small part of English teachers go to city to teach English The children in the city can get in touch with much more new things than the rural children do The urban children have received education, and they have advanced equipment and excellent teachers They can enjoy the teaching resources The urban children get the information faster and easier than the rural children So, the urban children learn the new things faster Their horizons are wide They think problems are deep and thorough Their knowledge is richer than the rural children Meanwhile, the urban students learn English fast and easily They have a good learning environment But the rural students are not same with them They are not able to study for many chores and farm work Rural education is backward, so they could only study in austere classrooms, where lack advanced teaching equipment At the same time, most English teachers don’t get in touch with new things, and they can’t use the new equipment because they are very old Finally, the equipment is just a decoration Many problems affect the rural education, such as inadequate education funding, lack of teachers, weak teaching quality
Therefore, it is very necessary to narrow the gap between urban education and rural education to promote the development of rural education It must be healthy development of Chinese education
