I. Introduction
Jane Austen(1775-1817), an excellent realistic Britain novelists in the 19th, was born in a small village. As a daughter of the local rector, Austen had never been to school, but her family educated her very well. It was her father that enlightened her aspiration for writing. And her father was also the first teacher of Austen. At the age of 11 or 12 Austen began to write. Through her life, six famous novels were finished, including Sense and Sensibility(1811) and Pride and Prejudice(1813) as well as Mansfield Park(1814), Emma(1816) and Northanger Abbey(1818), and Persuasion(1818). Austen is a great writer of marriage and courtship, her only concern is how a single young woman haunts for a right husband. However, Austen’s novels are often narrow in the subject because of her limited life experience, and the dominant theme of her works is about courtship and marriage of young boys and girls in her time. As a famous realistic novelist, the works of Jane Austen actually reflect the economic condition, the social background as well as women’s social position of that time. David Cecil once used one sentence to describe her works as “a realistic picture of social and domestic life, seen from a woman’s point of view and treated as a spirit of comedy”.(Cecil 144)
