Abstract With the transformation of social economy and family structure, Chinese family education is faced with many new problems and challenges. At the same time, the communication about family education between China and America has become more frequent and the differences are emerging gradually. In our lifetime, family is the first school, in which parents are the first teachers for the children. Children are the hope of a nation, so family education which is the elementary education for children is particularly important. There are many types of family education in the world and each of them shows distinctive features .There are great differences in the concepts of education, methods of education and results of education between Chinese  family education and American  family education. By analyzing why Chinese family education is different from American family education from historical, economic and social reasons, this thesis will provide feasible solutions for Chinese and American children all-around development and offer some practical suggestions for future researches.  59914

摘要随着经济社会的转型、家庭结构的变化,我国家庭教育又面临着许多新的问题和挑战。中美两国教育交流日益频繁,家庭教育方面的差异也日渐突显。在我们一生之中,家庭是我们的第一所学校,父母就是我们的第一任老师。孩子是一个国家的希望,所以家庭教育作为孩子的基础教育显得尤其重要。世界各地有着各种各样的家庭教育,每种教育都有它的独特之处。中美两国在家庭教育观念,家庭教育方法以及家庭教育结果方面存在很大的差异。本文从历史,经济,社会方面分析差异存在的原因,旨在为中美孩子全面发展以及将来相关的研究提出建设性的意见及解决办法。

 1. Introduction

The family education is the earliest and the basis of all periods of education. When a baby comes into the world, he would receive the first education from family, so family education is a very important and necessary part of education. Due to many differences in history, economy, cultural tradition, people’s lifestyle and customs and so on between two countries, there exists many differences in family education values. This thesis analyzes the differences of family education values in developing kid’s independence, interest, social adaptability, creativity, personal development and some methods for family education especially on children, hoping to find a more scientific way of developing a better family education. Most of parents hope their children will have a bright future and they have great ambitions for their children, holding high hopes for them.
