摘要幽默是语言的一种表达形式，在生活中起着舒缓情绪，营造愉悦氛围等重要作用。幽默为作品增加了诙谐的元素和讽刺的色彩，使文学作品持久地散发出迷人的魅力，使读者爱不释手，百读不厌。纵观文学作品宝库，若论幽默元素集大成者，当属《围城》。67678

《围城》是著名学者钱钟书先生的代表作，曾被译成多国文字，以其幽默诙谐的语言享誉中外。虽然《围城》的译本颇多，但是真正能将其幽默精髓表达出来并呈献给读者的少之甚少。其中，以Jeanne Kelly和茅国权先生合著英译本最为经典。

尽管中西方在地域、历史、宗教、语言等方面的文化差异给《围城》的幽默语翻译设置了一定的障碍，但只要译者仔细比对原语文化和译语文化，准确无语地理解原文，并且采取行之有效的翻译方法，还是能够传译出原文的幽默效果，这对东西方文化的交流能够起到积极的促进作用。

本文以《围城》及其英译本为例，选取文中最具代表性的语句，通过对意象转换法在幽默翻译中应用的分析，阐述了幽默语的可译性，探讨译者的翻译策略，中英文幽默语言的差异和对等，以及文化与幽默的关系。

Title      Humor Translation in Fortress Besieged        

Abstract

Humor is a form of language expression, which plays an important role in smoothing moods, creating pleasant atmosphere and so on. Humor adds jocular and ironic elements to works, which make the works charming for long. Taken the whole literature works into account, Fortress Besieged ranks first in the field of humor.

Fortress Besieged is the masterpiece of the famous scholar Ch’ien Chung-shu. It has been translated into many languages and renowned for its humorous language. Fortress Besieged has many translation versions, but the works that can express the real essence of humor to readers are less and less. The work that has been jointly translated by Jeanne Kelly and Nathan K.Mao is classic among them.

There are many cultural differences in geography, history, religion, language and other aspects between the east and west, which set humor translation obstacles in Fortress Besieged. But if the translators compare the source language culture with the target language culture carefully, understand the original text and take effective translation methods, they can still interpret the original humor effect. In this way, the communications can be promoted positively. 

This thesis, taking Fortress Besieged and its English version as an example, chooses typical sentences and analyzes the application of image transformation and cultural relevance in Fortress Besieged to illustrate translatability of verbal humor and discusses the translation strategies in the novel. It also arouses thinking about the relationship between culture and humor.
