Abstract Political essays are a kind of practical writing, characterized by unique stylistic features. In the first place, the thesis points out the reason for the existence of Chinese null-subject sentences, and meanwhile describes their structural features and classifications, together with language traits of the government work report. In this situation, it helps to clarify relationship between null-subject sentences and the government work report. Furthermore, the paper discusses definition and rules of Skoposheorie, along with their applications in translation in null-subject sentences. Taking the 2015 government work report as an example, the paper further explores translation techniques in null-subject sentences, putting forward four relevant techniques: adding the first personal pronoun “we”, using passive voice, changing parts of speech and using abstract nouns.70927

1. Introduction
The government work report is a kind of political essays which plays a critical role in people’s political life. The report is a special document form, characterized by both oral and literal writing styles. Moreover, as China increases its overall national strength and deepens exchanges with the rest of the world, political essays have been an important type of media, through which foreign people can have a better understanding of life in China in respect of politics, economy and culture. Nowadays cases of studies on translation in political essays are so few that researches on translation in the government work report become fewer and fewer. Furthermore, existent studies are only limited to comparing cultural differences between Chinese and English, and introducing language features of the report broadly and generally, with few emphases on translation in null-subject sentences. As a result, the thesis is organized to make an analysis of transla tion techniques in null-subject sentences of the government work report from the perspective of Skopostheorie.论文网
