Heroes in different cultures are chosen to represent heroism。 Heroism as a special form of culture, reflects progress of history, enriches people’s behavior, and stimulates the society’s improvement to some extent。 Different cultures have different values and traditions, definitely they will have different definitions towards heroism, and also, influenced by cultural differences, heroes behave differently。
As an important form of mass media, movie not only is an approach of art presentation, but also reflects the society and the spirit of people。 Meanwhile, this kind of media form also influences the human behavior and thinking。 Reflected in movies , heroism is a foremost theme in both western and eastern cultures。
Comparing them carefully, it is not hard to find that the differences of heroes are caused by different values and spirits。 However , there are also similarities of heroes in Chinese and American movies and heroes share the some same characteristics。 For example, heroes in eastern and western cultures all have mission and achievement, goodness of soul, inpidualism, self-confidence, defender, strength, the persevering spirit, endless courage and strong will in common and so on。 文献综述
This paper describes the similarities and differences by comparing people from two movies“Hero” in Chinese culture and “Ant-man” in American culture。 The main part of the paper is that two movies are analyzed in the terms of similarities and differences of heroism as the different interpretations of Chinese and American movies。 More specifically speaking, firstly, the paper describes the similarities of heroism between eastern and western culture。 And then, the cultural differences behind movies between the two cultures are introduced。 Thirdly, the reasons for different interpretations of heroism in Chinese and American movies are discussed。 Knowing the similarities and differences of Chinese and American heroism can help us avoid misunderstanding, encourage the cooperation during the intercultural communication。
2。 Literature Review
There are many papers linked with heroism in both indoor and overseas。 In the 19th, British famous historian Thomas Carlyle in Heroes, Hero-worship expressed an idea that heroes worship never dies and can not die; hero is a broad topic and heroes is various。 Yu Dafu once said: “A nation without great man is the most pity group of organism。 However, the country where there are great men without support, respect and admire is the nation without hope。” We can learn from it that heroes is fundamental topic in different cultures。 Siegfried Kracauer pointed that movies can reflect psychological states of one country more directly than other arts media。 Therefore, as one form of culture, heroism can also be reflected by movies。 Wu Congming and Sun Chanjuan think that heroes in American have many doctrines from the Christianity which advocates belief in god。
Researchers argue that why some cultures are more inpidual than others。 However, most researchers have reached an agreement that eastern cultures like Chinese culture are linked with collectivism while western culture like American culture are connected to the inpidualism。 And there are many of these articles attributing American heroism, a representation of western cultures, to collectivism while Chinese film, a representation of eastern cultures to inpidualism。 On the basis of predecessors’ studies, the author compares the heroism in two movies “Ant man” and “Hero” about the similarities and differences。 In the paper, the author compare specific plots and characters in movies of both cultures, which are factors lead to similar or different interpretations of heroism in eastern and western cultures。 The paper especially describes the reasons of differences in both cultures and makes some detailed analysis of it。
