1。 Introduction

1。1 Background of the Research

Growth is an eternal topic in literature。 Growth novel, as the mainstream of literature on growth, has a long history which appeared in the late 18th century and the early 19th century in Germany。 

It illustrates the changes of protagonists’ personality and thoughts through their sufferings and experiences。 They become mature after experiencing roughness。 Most protagonists of the novel are adolescents as adolescence is the special period in one’s physical and mental growth。 (Zhou Ling, 2011) Adolescents’ growth is related to future development of the whole country。 The study of the novel has great significance。 From a content point of view, The Kite Runner is a typical growth novel。 It tells about Amir’s crime when he was young, his changes when he was an adult and his salvation at his middle age。 The research of the novel will bring benefits to the inpidual, the family, and a country。 It helps people to avoid similar problems exists in the novel。

As adolescents are the future of the family and a country, they are paid more attention to their education。 With the development of society and the fiercer competitions, parents are anxious to educate their kids to be successful。 Adolescents are forced to learn heavily and have no right to choose their hobbies。 They are always compared with others by their parents, when they fall behind others, they will be criticized cruelly。 Most parents focus on finding fault with their children and never praise them。 From the perspective of psychology, it is detrimental to children’s healthy growth。 论文网

It is common to see children who are under the control of powerful parents are always coward and inferior。 (Christopher Peterson, 2006)

Because of those inappropriate behaviors towards children, more and more kids have psychological illnesses, such as anxiety and depression。 (Jeni Hooper, 2012) In order to prevent children from these illnesses, psychology should be applied in education。 Positive psychology as a new subject in the area of psychology appeared recently brings great changes to the traditional psychology。 In Positive Psychology, attention is paid on positive sides of traditional psychology, such as positive characters。 As a new formed researching area, it is signed with the publish of “An Introduction to Positive Psychology” written by Seligman。 Positive psychology suggests that positive environment helps children to grow healthily and achieve their values but children who grow under pessimistic environment will have unhealthy emotions and behaviors。 Every coin has two sides, so does human。 Every person has his advantages and shortcomings, even those successful men has shortcomings as well。 Though with shortcomings, they succeed in their areas because they make full use of their advantages and avoid their weakness as possible as they can。 Parents, as the guide of adolescents, should help their kids to take great advantage of merits rather than complain about disadvantages。

Adolescents, as the future of the family and society, must be educated in a correct way。 It is very important to find advantages of children to enhance their confidence and power as the positive psychology suggests。 

The wrong teaching ideas of parents lead to failure in children。 The correct idea of making good use of positive psychology to educate adolescents is becoming more popular。
