1。 Introduction
Nineteen Eighty-Four is a political Utopia novel written by a British writer, George Orwell。 This work mainly concentrates on the hero Winston’s inner struggle and his thinking of history and humanity itself。 Besides this, the description of heroine Julia is also of great importance。 From her description we can infer the resistant characteristics of females under the pressure of totalitarianism。 It is the extremely terrifying social system and their pursuit of freedom that leads to the happening of secret love。 In this work, literature method, plot and theme strangely mixed up, George Orwell imagined a suffocating and terrifying totalitarian society whose ultimate goal is to struggle for power。 In the New Gothic horror, Winston suffered physical and emotional torture, which makes people feel worried and painful about the love under totalitarianism。文献综述
The novel depicts a regime, under which the state is enveloped in all aspects of society, including the daily lives of its citizens。 Totalitarian government not only controls all the economic and political affairs, but also governs people’s languages, values, views and beliefs, in order to eliminate differences between the country and society。 The obligation of citizens to the state is the primary concern of the community and crazy loyalty about Big Brother, while the state’s goal is to replace the existing regime with a perfect ideal society。 The main characters in the novel are Winston, O'Brien and Julia。 Winston worked in the "Ministry of truth", whose heart is full of resentment towards the community led by the Big Brother, but he is eager for love and friendship。 Julia, worked in the “Department Fiction” (the Ministry of literature and art) was forced to be involved in a love with Winston in a sneaky way considering the social environment。
