2。 Literature Review

Despite the importance of movie titles, translators have not paid enough attention to their translation。 Some translators ignore the cultural differences between two languages as well as the aesthetic needs of target audience in order to pursue commercial interests and attract the attention of audience。 But these novel and attractive names give the target audience wrong message to raise box office, which is deceiving the audience。 To solve these problems, many people try to find a solution to make the translation of movie titles more accurately and understandable by researching on the functions and features of movie titles。

In Cross-cultural Communication Translation, Jin Huikang deals with translation under the framework of cross-cultural communication。 He also briefly reviews and summarizes the translation of movie titles in terms of translation strategies。

In the book Cultural Context and Language Translation(2001), Bao Huinan said ,"In the past several years excellently-translated Chinese movie titles have become rare but more inappropriate ones springing up even in every corner of the audiovisual market, not only causing confusion to the audience, but also leading to management problems for the market。” He also briefly sums up the translation approaches adopted in the translation of movie titles。

Deng Long, a doctor in Guizhou Normal University, connects the translation of movie titles with relevance theory。 He tries to use the relevance theory which raised by Sperber and Wilson in Relevance: Communication and Cognition (1986) to re-interpret the translation of movie titles: the relevance between original language and target language; the relevance between foreign culture and native culture; the relevance between the theme of movie and translation; the relevance between the target audiences and translation。 “The relevance theory guides people to find the biggest relevance during the process of translation with minimum cognitive effort, thus we can avoid misunderstanding and mistranslation。” He said, “But this theory is far from perfect because we cannot explain all the phenomenon of verbal communication with relevance theory separately。”论文网

Besides, some other efforts have been made in this field。 Some people try to deal with the translation of movie titles from various perspectives。 For example, Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, the Adaptation Theory, the Functionalist Translation Theory, etc。

From my point of view, the aesthetic experience directly affect people acceptance of English movie titles。 Only if we fully consider the audience's aesthetic experience, can the translation be accepted by more people。 But I found few people to analyze the translation of movie titles from the perspective of aesthetics。 Thus, this text will give a systematic and comprehensive introduction of aesthetic characteristics of movie titles。

3。 The Aesthetic Characteristics of  Movie Titles

Translation is the process of implementation of two kinds of language equivalence relations, but also a process of creating text to a certain extent 。The translation process should fully consider the cultural background of the two languages, embodies the characteristics and connotation of beauty。 As a form of art, the movie itself represents a high degree of aesthetic。The translation of movie titles should also reflect the same requirements, so as to attract the audience with a lively and aesthetic title, to achieve the function of movie titles。This is the aesthetic characteristics of the movie title translation。 Throughout the Chinese translation of English movie titles, its aesthetic characteristics are mainly reflected in the following aspects。 文献综述

3。1 Beauty of phonology

The beauty of phonology refers to the loud pronunciation, sonorous rhythm of movie titles, which are flowing freely, rich sense of music and read catchy。 It can not only achieve the purpose of spreading the movie information, stimulating the desire to watch, but also can give people the hearing enjoyment of beauty, so that the audience is not easy to forget。     Translators generally use rhyme, alliteration and duplication, etc。 Through the adjustment of the language rhythm, tone and tempo, the titles achieve the beauty of phonology。 For example: the classic American musical movie Singing in the Rain is translated as 《雨中曲》, using the rhymes。 The reduplicated way of translation such as: A Few Good Men(《好人寥寥》), Halloween (《月光光,心慌慌》。In addition, direct transliteration like Godzilla (《哥斯拉》) and Titanic (《泰坦尼克号》) , not only retains the rhythm of original title , but also gives a unique exotic feeling, which attracts many of the viewers。 In these works, translators are familiar with the pronunciation and intonation features of two languages。 Using a variety of means, they translate the beautiful title, which made a deep impression on the audience。来,自,优.尔:论;文*网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766-
