New English curriculum Standard has put forward that more vocabulary should be added to English teaching materials。 With the much new vocabulary coming up, students find that there’re still some barriers in reading, although they have learned English for many years, and among those barriers vocabulary is the biggest one。 When some students come across with new words, they feel it is hard to understand the article, and the difficulties in reading may cause their negative feelings and even give up reading。 Some students may guess the meaning of the words they came up with, though it doesn’t affect the general idea, it does have an effect on understanding details。 So, expanding students’ vocabulary plays an important role in English reading teaching。
