Abstract Nowadays, many cultures around the world are being transmitted and integrated at a rapid speed。 Film, as a combination of technology and art, accounts for a place on this Chinese and Western cultural exchange stage。 What’s more, film functions as an important medium and receives much concern all over the world。 Movie title is a vital component of the film, it contains the main content, the theme, and also the purpose of attraction, so, whether a movie is successful firstly depends on its title in most cases。 To be exact, an excellent film has an appropriate title translation which reflects the scriptwriter’s inventiveness and the idea originally delivered by the movie。 Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are different in translating movie titles due to their location, economy, custom and many other factors。 This thesis attempts to use examples to compare and discuss the translation features of English movie titles in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, from different aspects。76036

1。 Introduction
In 1896, film was spread into China for the first time, since then, more and more English movies have been introduced and become well received among Chinese。 Just like what JosefVonSternberg, a famous director said, “Film is an art。” Not only is there an art to making films, there is also an art to watching films。 Film is recognized as a unique and powerful art form on a par with painting, sculpture, music, literature, and drama (Joseph and Dennis 3)。 In addition, film is unique, setting apart from other media by its quality of free and constant motion (Joseph and Dennis 3)。论文网
