Effective leading-in has played a very important role in primary school English class。 First of all, leading-in is an indispensable part of the teaching process。 Bruner, a American psychologist, said that the teaching process is a kind of activity, requiring continually raising and solving problems。 Leading-in, presentation and conclusion are inseparable in one lesson, because leading-in is definitely related to student's learning state。 Therefore, we should attach importance to the beginning of the English teaching, which plays a very significant role in enlightening students' thinking and improving the quality of teaching。 Meanwhile, leading-in plays a very specific role in English teaching process。 Different from other subjects, English is a language subject。 As to pupils, especially the lower grades, they have a natural curiosity about English learning。 Effective leading-in can mobilize the students' curiosity, arouse students' desire for knowledge, so as to successfully get into the best state of classroom learning。

There’re many studies on leading-in。 Throughout these papers, they mainly focus on the significance and methods of leading-in in the primary school, but do not delve deeply into the theoretical foundation hidden behind the methods and evaluation criteria after the method is implemented。 So this paper aims to introduce several effective methods and point out problems or misunderstandings that may arise in the practical cases, and then give corresponding suggestions。 In addition, this paper also attempts to give evaluation criteria to test if the leading-in method is effective when practiced in the English class。来,自,优.尔:论;文*网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766-

Chapter Two Literature review

2。1 Definition of leading-in

Leading-in, also called beginning lecturing, refers to an action that a teacher guides students to make mental and intellectual preparations for class and leads students into learning state at the beginning of a new teaching。 (Shuzhen Hu, 1996)

Fu Jianming (2005) pointed out that leading-in is a kind of teaching activity that a teacher guides students to carry out study before new contents and materials are presented。

Comparatively speaking, this paper is inclined to agree with the first definition。 Pupils have their unique characteristics of physical and psychological development。 Teaching pupils requires more energy and care into the understanding of how pupils think and learn, because they are still developing; their bodies are still growing; their mind are still developing; some aspects of their language are still developing。 (Moon, 2000: 67) An American English teaching expert, Brown。H。D (2001) proposes that teaching activities should be designed from the views of the students, ensuring that the leading-in is clear and understandable。 So, in the English class of primary school, leading-in is not just a session to lead students into learning state; it’s also a necessary step for the teacher to guide their students to make mental and intellectual preparations for class, based on students’ previous knowledge。
