The importance of studying idiom translation from the perspective of culture lies in the following aspects:论文网
In the first place, we know that idioms have many cultural connotations。 The research for English and Chinese idioms mainly includes these aspects, such as histories, psychological characters, views of cultural values, religions, living environments and conventions。 Only when we analyze idioms from these different perspectives can we achieve the basically right translation of idioms。 The translation of idioms has no fixed standard or mode and different scholars may have different measures。 But we concluded some general strategies of translation, for instance, literal translation, liberal translation, amplification in translation and transferred translation。 Therefore, when we translate the idioms, we must firstly master and use flexibly these general skills of translations。
In the second place, it is inevitable that cultural transmission will affect the English-Chinese/ Chinese-English idioms translation。 Idioms, the carrier of rich cultural information, are a vital part of language。 Because of the cultural difference, English and Chinese idioms have their own characteristics with strong national color and they serve as a bridge between different people and cultures。 Idioms are just like a huge mirror whereby we can see the kinds of cultural views of a nation。 In sum, a good translator is supposed to translate idioms underlying the culture。
