2。 Literature Review
Within the broad discipline of linguistics, various emerging sub-disciplines focus on a more detailed description and analysis of language, and are often organized on the basis of the school of thought and theoretical approach that they pre-suppose, or the external factors that influence them。 BEL is in one of those interdisciplinary fields。
What is Business English Linguistics, Wang Lifei (2013) defined it as a new subject that derived from foreign linguistics, and it studies the application of linguistics in international business from various theoretical linguistics angles。
As for disciplinary construction, it combines with the development of higher education。 Subject generally refers to the scientific branch which is relatively independent and complete in the whole scientific system, it is the name of academic classification and also the foundation of teaching subject。
Business English nowadays has been in an unshakable status in the international market。 Not only for its role of enhancing the economic growth, but also for its influence in training millions of talents in a particular aspects。 BEL is a complement to Business English to some extent。 However that doesn’t mean BEL can’t be essential。 It reveals how English is applied in business activities。 Moreover, it explains the variation phenomenon from different angles especially by investigating the relationship between variation in language and business intercultural effect。 It provides a convincing theoretical basis for the language phenomenon of business English。 Theoretical basis elaborates the position and theoretical modality that a subject characterizes by in human knowledge system。 Many researchers, such as, professor Wang Lifei from the University of Business Economics, professor Yang Lianrui from Ocean University of China, have already made many studies on it。 However, few of them have ever elaborated the theoretical basis of BEL subject construction。 This is the very field this thesis is intended to deal with。
