Abstract The Bluest Eye is written by Toni Morrison and published in 1970。 It talks about the tragedy of a black girl, Pecola Breedlove, who is teased and desolated by classmates and even her parents。 So she is always eager for a pair of blue eyes, which she thinks can save her from the miserable life。 Beside Pecola’s tragedy, there are other tragedies, such as her mother Pauline’s tragedy, her father Cholly’s tragedy, other black people’s tragedies etc。 Through analyzing the Breedloves’ tragedy, this thesis is intended to point out the root of the Black’s tragedies are racial discrimination, cultural discrimination and gender discrimination in American society。76936

In 1993, an American female writer won the Nobel Prize for Literature。 Her name is Toni Morrison。 It makes her one of the most important female writers in American society。 Her works are famous for lively images and profound thoughts。 And she always speaks for black women。论文网
The Bluest Eye is Morrison's first novel, which was finished in a difficult period of her life。 And it was published in 1970。The main character in this novel is Pecola。 She is a girl who has black skin, ugly appearance and longs for a pair of blue eyes。 But people around her always dislike her and laugh at her, including her family, which makes her life a tragedy。 At that time, white culture is in a dominate place, and the race and culture of black people are rejected and abandoned。 This novel makes us think deeply of the tragic fate of black people and unfair treatment which they have suffered from。 By reading it, we have to reflect on our own identify and shape our values。 What’s more, we can also learn about the living conditions and culture of the black people。
This thesis intends to analyze the origin of the Breedlove’s tragedy from three perspectives: racial discrimination, cultural discrimination and gender discrimination。 This thesis is pided into five chapters。 The first part gives a brief introduction to Toni Morrison and her novel The Bluest eye。 The second part briefly tells what people have studied on this novel home and abroad。 The third part describes racial discrimination, cultural discrimination and gender discrimination generally。 These are three main factors which cause the tragedy of black people。 The fourth part is the analysis of the Breedloves’ tragedy。 It talks about the different tragedies of three family members from the perspective of three kinds of discrimination。 The last part is conclusion。
