Problems of Primary School English Education in Rural Areas-Taking a Primary School for Example

Chapter one Introduction   

1。1 Background

     Education is the foundation of a country, which gets involved with national stability and social development。 The quality of the basic education decides the degree of people mastering the basic knowledge and cognitive abilities。 And English plays an very important part in primary school education。 When it comes to education, people should pay more attention to the learning abilities and interests in English of primary school students。 The English knowledge they learn in primary school will lay a good foundation for their future learning life。 In order to provide a better theoretical guidance to the English teaching in primary school, the government issued “National English Curriculum Standard” and “ Guidelines on actively promoting offering English lessons in primary school” in 2000。 It is required that since the autumn of 2001, all the primary schools in cities and counties should offer English lessons, and since the autumn of 2002, the primary schools in towns or villages should offer English lessons。 Since then, the whole system of English curriculum from primary school to colleges was set up。 Learning English from primary school is suitable for children’s physical and mental rules on English learning, is a key point to promote the quality-oriented education and means a lot to improve students’ English level。 However, there is a great gap in education between urban schools and rural schools due to balanced educational development。 This paper will mainly focus on the gaps in English education between rural primary schools and urban primary schools, and try to reflect the real situations。 

1。2 Significance and target

    This paper regards the situation of primary English education in Jangsu Province as the research object, analyzed the situations of English education in rural primary schools, and finally provides some practicable suggestions。 Wei Miao Town, Pei Xian is located in the northeast of Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province, and its economic level ranks in the middle of Xuzhou。 There is a good educational foundation in Pei xian, which provides good conditions for the researches on education。 This places is deeply affected by Han Chinese culture, which makes the educational situations different from other cities。 Therefore, based on the former researches, through the investigations of teachers and students, this paper is relatively closer to the real situation in rural primary school。 Although there have been many researches on the primary English education, there are few researches on the current situations of primary English education in rural areas。 My major is primary English education, so I practice in a local primary school, in order to combine the theory that I have learned in college and the real situations。 There are five parts in my paper, first is the introduction including the background and significance; second is the review, including the theoretical basis and former researches; third is the current problems and reasons; the fourth is the suggestions; and the last part in the summary。文献综述
