Body Language Applied in Primary School English Teaching Chapter one Introduction
1。1 Research background
According to the reform and opening-up policy to the outside world in our country, English has become a more and more common communication tool in today's society。 To lower-grade pupils, English is a totally new language, so teachers should pay more attention to cultivating students’ interest in English at the beginning。 Actually there are many ways to stimulate pupils’ interest in English learning and make them study better。 For many years, English teaching and learning just force on spoken and written language and many people don’t know the functions of body language。 Body language, as one tool of communication, is as important as spoken and written language。 The traditional English teaching mostly uses spoken language and puts more emphasis on English knowledge such as grammar and writing。 So it is hard to foster students’ enthusiasm and creativity。 In fact only 35 percent message is sent by verbal communication, while 65 percent is sent by nonverbal communication。 As we all know, teachers should not only teach students by what they say, but also by what they do。 (Feng wenquan, Leng zebing, Lu Qing, 2004) So teachers should take good use of body language because body language has many features such as distinction, helping and originality, and it can combine body language with spoken language effectively to cultivate students’ interest in English。 Moreover, body language can help teachers to control the class and narrow the gap between teachers and students。 Students and teachers can understand each other better not only in English class but also in daily life。 Furthermore, the abstraction of knowledge also requires vivid and dramatic body language to make it more specific。 If teachers can also show their good attitude to students, present good behaviors in English teaching and make a deep impression on students, students will have interest in English learning。 In a word, body language is an important media through which people communicate with each other。 论文网
