There is no doubt that body language is important and helpful in primary school English teaching, but it doesn’t mean that we can depend on body language completely。 If we overuse body language in English class, it will make students confused。

Chapter Two Literature Review
2。1 The definition of body language
Body language means using facial expression and gestures to convey our feelings in communication。 But in primary school English teaching, it has its specific meaning。
According to Liao kebin in Body Language in Class Teaching, he pointed out “body language means that teachers use different body language to match with verbal language in different phases。 Using nonverbal language to attract students’ attention, pass on knowledge vividly and share their sentiments。”
Most scholars have given similar explanation for the meaning of body language。 Body language is the opposite of verbal language and people use it to express their ideas。
In Li Fang’s definition, body language mainly consists of gestures, eyesight, movements and postures。 It is an important additional means and complementary to verbal language。 Through the combination of body language and verbal language, we can express our feelings to others well。 文献综述
Wu Xiaohong also proposed that students can understand immediately and pay more attention to the class when teachers use body language as an assistant teaching means in English teaching。
From these points of view from different scholars, we can see their support to the use of body language in English teaching。 In primary school, using body language in English teaching can achieve teaching goals directly, help students understand what they have learned and master the knowledge firmly。 Besides these, it can also set the atmosphere and create a free study environment。 Students in this atmosphere will be willing to listen to the teachers and they will have interest in English learning gradually。 They will not feel English learning is very boring any more。
Hence body language is very important in primary school English teaching。 That is to say body language should be used properly in primary school English teaching。
