In this paper, the examples from TV show Modern Family and Home with Kids is cited to explore the the differences between Chinese and American family education。 By contrasting the examples from these two TV shows, this paper will interpret the reasons for the differences of family education of the two countries。 Through the comparison, this paper will also puts up some pieces of feasible advice that help Chinese family education to get a better development and improve Chinese children’s comprehensive qualities in an all-round way。

    This paper consists of 5 parts。 The first part is the introduction of the paper。 The second part consists of two brief introductions about the two TV shows Home with Kids and Modern Family。 The third part is the comparisons between Chinese and American family education。 The forth part is the reasons that cause the differences and the fifth part is about the conclusion about the whole paper。

II。 A Brief Introduction of Home with Kids and Modern Family

2。1 Home with Kids

    Home with Kids is one of the most famous TV shows in China talking about the daily stories in a reorganized family。 The family has five members: father Xia Donghai is a writer; mother Li Mei is a nurse; older sister Xia Xue and two brothers Liu Xing and Xia Yu are all school students。 Without doubt, each member has their own typical character。 Mother Liemei, according to the show, is a “tiger mom”, being strict in educating children while father Xia Donghai, is a typical “cat dad”, always being kind to the children。 Though their love to their children is absolute, Li Mei always care too much about children’s score in school。 In her mind, whether having high grades means whether the children is good and whether the children can have a bright future。 Xia Donghai, always meet all the demands that children want。 Xia Xue, the older sister, is the miniature of modern Chinese girls, high school student, good at taking high score, little arrogant but quite cute。 She is proud of her performance in school, and try to look like mature adult。 As for the two brothers, contrary to Xia Xue, pretty naughty and always cause trouble for the family。 They don’t like school, while games and sports are far more interesting than anything in their mind, what’s more they do not care about being the ‘bad student’ in school at all。 But it’s just the little trouble that makes the family life become interesting and dramatic enough。 And it is the common and daily life stories that make millions of Chinese audiences feel warm and trapped in its plot。 

    The themes of the show are the modern childhood and modern relationship between parents and children。 The show is wildly welcomed in China within a short time。 The reasons for its success are that it not only is a miniature of the modern Chinese family but also conveys harmonious emotional resonate to the audiences。论文网

2。2 Modern Family

    Modern Family is a well-known American TV show telling the daily stories of three families in America from an interesting angle。 The show looks like it is shot by an ‘invisible’ camera。 The Pritchet’s, the Dunphy’s and gay couple the Tucker’s are miniatures of modern American families。 There are lots of modern social problems hiding in their performance, all being argued in a mild and acceptable way。 Such as relationship between parents and children, multicultural communication, gay problem in America and etc。 Jay is father of Clair and Mitchell, he married a young and porced woman Gloria who comes from Columbia and carries a sensitive son Manny to the marriage。 Phil is husband of Clair, they have three children: the popular girl Haley, kind of book nerd Alex and the little boy Luke。 Cameron is Mitchell’s boyfriend, they are both gay。 The two now live together and decide to adopt the Vietnam baby Lily。
