摘 要 语言和文化相辅相成,不可分割。词汇是文化的载体,它直接影响语言的学习,而词汇的文化内涵的掌握又直接影响词汇的正确选择和使用。本文采用文献解读法阐述了语言与文化尤其是词汇、词源与文化之间的关系以及词源在词汇教学中的作用,并着重论述了如何利用词汇的文化内涵进行词汇教学,以期提高中学英语词汇教学的效率。83625

Abstract Language and culture are not separable or interdependent。 Vocabulary is the carrier of culture, which directly affects the learning of language。 And the mastery of the cultural connotation of vocabulary has a direct influence on the correct choice and use of the vocabulary。 This paper expounds the relationship between language and culture, especially the relationship among vocabulary, etymology and culture as well as the role of etymology in vocabulary teaching by using literature interpretation method, so as to improve the efficiency of English vocabulary teaching in middle school。

The Cultural Connotation of English Etymology and Vocabulary Teaching

Ⅰ。 Introduction 

Language and culture are interrelated, interdependent and mutually dependent。 Without language, culture can’t exist。 Each language has three basic elements: phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar。 Culture is a system, a whole。 What we can see is just the concrete elements of the cultural system, namely a specific cultural phenomenon。 Different scholars have different definitions of culture。 But most academicians believe that there is a broad and narrow sense in culture。 The narrow one stands for social ideology culture which can also be said about education, philosophy, literature, art and other aspects of the spiritual wealth and the general culture can refer to the sum of wealth in mental sense which is made in the process of human historical practice which can as well be said about people's whole way of life。 Culture can also be pided into two different groups, namely, the big culture and small culture。 Great culture can refer to the art, music, and literature of a country or race。 While small culture refers to our social customs。 Language is the tool of cultural transmission。 Since culture and language are not departed, so are the culture and word。 The understanding of vocabulary’s cultural connotation will affect the correct and proper choice and use of words in a direct way, thus improving vocabulary teaching。 Although the modern English studying tools are increasingly popularized, the difficulty in keeping a great amount of words in mind still disturbs the crowd who are learning English。 This paper is to explore the effective vocabulary teaching strategies connected to cultural factors in etymology for the purpose of assisting the English learners to learn a larger number of vocabulary and its relevant cultural knowledge。 As we all know, culture is the soil of the language to exist and develop。论文网
