摘要模糊性是自然语言的本质属性。模糊语言是英汉翻译中不可避免的现象。翻译过程中译者必须根据模糊语言的共性和差异采取不同的翻译策略。本文从模糊语的分类和特点入手，通过采用文献回顾法、归纳法和列举法，提出了在英汉翻译中针对模糊信息进行处理的翻译策略，包括直译、意译、变译、增译、省略、以及归化与异化，恰当使用这些翻译策略，有助于准确地把握和再现源语言的表达。83629

Abstract Vagueness is an essential feature of natural language。 Vague language is an inevitable phenomenon in E-C translation。 In the process of E-C translation, translators should adopt different translation strategies according to similarity and difference of vague language。 Starting from the discussion on the classification and characteristic of vague language, this paper by using documental methods, inductive methods and enumeration methods, put forward several translation strategies in E-C translation of vague message: literal translation, free translation, variation translation, amplification, omission and naturalization and dissimilation。 Using those translation strategies appropriately can grasp and represent the expression of original language。

An Analysis of the Phenomenon of Vague Language in E-C Translation

I。 Introduction 

Our world is full of concrete and abstract things so that we have to use vague language to describe those things that we have seen, felt and touched。 Vague language plays a vital role in human language。 It makes language become more colorful and meaningful。 Nowadays, vague language has been widely concerned in the field of linguistics。 In recent years, many achievements about the study of vague language are emerging。 In our country, Wu Tieping’s “Vague Language Initially Searched” (1979) initiated the study of vague language。 At abroad, there are some representative scholars, such as Pierce, Channel, Williamson, Eubulides, etc。 L。 A。 Zadeh, American scientist, proposed the concept of “vagueness” firstly and developed the Vague-Set Theory。 During more than 20 years’ research and development of the study of vague language, one of key task has been gradually transformed from the illustration of vague phenomenon to the application of vague language。 Many scholars paid attention to whether vague language is used appropriately or not。 At the same time, since the police of reform and opening, the interaction between countries become more and more frequent。 In order to better comprehend the foreign culture, the use of translation is inevitable。 The E-C translation is a bridge between Chinese culture and foreign culture。 To deal with the translation of vague phenomenon is a key link of a successful translation。 Nowadays, the relationship between vague language and its translation has become a new task for scholars at home and abroad。 Scholars have shown adequate concerns for the relationship。
