Abstract With the rise of China’s overall national strength, China has played an increasingly significant part in the international society and therefore more and more people want to know China’s development in various aspects, which reveals the importance of the English translation of Government Work Report。 This thesis has analyzed the English translation of 2017 Government Work Report from the perspective of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, in order to evidence the feasibility of applying this theory to translating GWR。 First of all, the core concept of functional equivalence theory and its development in China are introduced。 Then, the content of GWR and the significance of its translation as well as its linguistic characteristics are discussed in the second part。 The third part probes into the application of functional equivalence theory to GWR translation at the lexical, syntactic and discourse level。 85733
