Listening plays a very important role in our daily life, especially in the contemporary society which exhibits a shift away from printed media towards sound。 Lundsteen defines listening as "the process by which spoken language is converted to meaning in the mind" (Lundsteen 179)。 Most of the information about the world we gain is through listening。 The point has frequently been made that of the time an inpidual is engaged in communication; approximately 9 percent is devoted to writing, 16 per cent to reading, 30 per cent to speaking, and 45 per cent to listening。 Listening is also essential in language learning。 Vandergrift claims "It is now generally plays a key role in facilitating language learning。"(Vandergrift 168)。 It is the first step for the learners to learn language。 Listening, together with speaking, reading and writing is regarded as the four basic skills of language learning。 Association gave a definition of "listening": Listening is a process of receiving and constructing meaning forms and a process of reacting to verbal and nonverbal information (Carrier 5) now more and more people have realized the importance of listening in language learning。 Not only the universities, but many middle schools have arranged the special listening class to cultivate the students' listening competence。 Nearly all kinds of the English tests have the listening part。 Listening is no more the Cinderella skill and has attracted more and more attention。 According to Joan Money (Money 88), listening as "everything that impinges on the human processing which medicates between sound and the construction of meaning"。 Many scholars concur that input plays an essential role in second language。 Language input includes listening and writing (Wynne。W 33)。 Listening as input is needed first in the process of language learning。 Listening has a close relationship to Input Hypothesis。 输入假说在初中英语听力教学中的应用:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_201623.html
