Abstract: Editorial, also known as leader, is of great significance to any press. It represents the attitude of the press towards current events, diplomacy, politics and so on. Readers can have a better understanding of the media through reading the part. After the publish of the English version of Global Times in 2009, its editorial, tagged as perceptive and adventurous, has drawn much attention from foreign audiences. To convey the meaning instead of the form of the text is the key point of Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, which is in line with the requirement of translating Chinese editorial into English. However, there is few studies conducted in China that studies Chinese editorial translation. Therefore, this paper will compare the Chinese editorials from Global Times (Chinese version) with its English counterpart, and by doing so to find methods to better convey the meaning.34945

A Study of Chinese Editorial Translation from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Using Global Times As An Example
1. Introduction
Global Times is a well known news paper under the Party’s media, People’s Daily. It is famous for its “ boldness ” in reporting some of the so-called “ sensitive issues ” in China, including topics like human rights, which China often being accused of by Western media. Different from official media in China, who often use words that are vague and stern, Global Times has formed its own style of writing, especially in its editorials, that catches the eyes of readers both home and abroad. Since the publication of its English edition in 2009, more and more attention has been drawn from foreign media and politicians, the news paper has been used as a significant way to learn Chinese policies and real opinions of its people. Its popularity shows how important it is for one news paper, or more broadly, for one kind of culture, to be heard by the world in a way that not only tells the truth, but also arouse the reader’s appetite; in that case, a good translation is irreplaceable. Global Times gives us a perfect example of how words work between different cultures, so its Chinese edition and English counterpart can be used as translation exercises for English learners who want to improve their skills in editorial translation. 从功能对等理论看《环球时报》中文社评英译:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_32678.html
