1 Introduction In history, schema plays an important role in cognitive psychology and its application field has undergone development from psychology, artificial intelligence into language. Since the 1970s, schema theory has been applied into reading and listening comprehension and recently, it is broadly applied to fields like writing and translation. However, it is still new to see its application in interpreting, another important discipline that involves comprehension, memorization and so on. It thus forms research potentiality and space to test other feasibility of this theory. The feasibility of the application of schema theory in interpreting is to be explored in this dissertation through detailed literature review of schema and interpreting theory based on a tentative school-based survey as the supplementary information. This dissertation starts with definitions, types and characteristics of schema and interpretation in literature review, which lays a foundation for the roles of schema in the process of interpretation in the following chapter. Then, with the relevant discussions of schema and interpreting, the hypothesis of application of schema in interpreting is to be precisely deduced. At last, a descriptive school-based survey intends to trigger the reflection on interpretation learning of SIT undergraduates, which adds the practical meaning to this paper. 2 Literature Review This part intends to build a systemic review of research on interpretation and schema theory. In order to link the connection between schema theory and the process of interpretation, the review focuses on the detailed understandings of interpretation and schema from previous researchers. 2.1 Research on Interpretation In this section, research on interpretation will be presented from three perspectives, namely definitions, types and characteristics.
