   This thesis will mainly do research through contrastive and comparative analysis. Meanwhile, it will illustrate the translation of “Three Beauties”, beauty in form, and  beauty in sense of Li Qingzhao’s Ci Poems.

II. Li Qingzhao’s Ci-poetry and Translation

2.1 Li Qingzhao’s Ci Poems
Ci-poetry of Song Dynasty represents a very high achievement in Chinese classics. Ci Poem has a thriving development in Song Dynasty and there were numerous outstanding Ci poets coming to the historical stage. Li Qingzhao lived in the period between Northern and Southern Song. Though a women born in feudal times, when women suffered both oppression and discrimination, she ranks supreme among the Ci ports in the history of Chinese classical literature.
As the leader of the graceful and restrained school, Li Qingzhao is distinguished for her elegance in diction, lucidness in style and profundity in poetic feeling. Unfortunately, only a portion of her Ci Poems exists, but still they are considered treasures of the Chinese classics. And the most carefully authenticated text of her Ci Poems is offense by the modern scholar Tang Guizhang(1901-1990) in his Poems of the Song Dynasty. This sampling of her work has been praised highly by later generations as Ci Poems of the highest literary quality. The sincerity of her emotion and the elegance of her style make her Ci Poems profound and immortal .She is especially skillful at creating fresh charming imagery in a beautiful, highly polished language.
2.2 Translation by Chinese
The first translation of Ci poems of Li Qingzhao was done by Bing Xin(冰心) in her graduate thesis for a mater’s degree in 1926, with the title of “An English Translation and Edition of the Poems of Lady Li-an”. Chu Dagao (初大告) was also among the earliest to introduce Li Qingzhao’s Ci Poems into the English world, who published Chinese Lyrics(《中华隽词》). In 1961, Lin Yutang (林语堂) published “The importance of Understanding”. In 1966, Hu Pin-ching published Li Ch’ing-chao(《李清照评传》).The first published work of Li’s Ci Poems in China was done by Weng Xianliang(翁显良) in 1985, who publish “An English Translation of Chinese Ancient Poems” (《古诗英译》). Xu Zhongjie(徐忠杰) in 1986 Containing eight Ci Poems of Li Qingzhao. Till now in inland Xu Yuanchong(许渊冲) is the only one who has translated all the sixty Ci Poems of Li Qingzhao in Literature and Translation published in 2003. He made a great contribution in this filed.
The translation studies on Li Qingzhao came into being in the early 1980s. In 1981s, Xu Yuanchong put out a research article: “The Criteria of Translation”. In this article he explained the famous “Three Beauties” theory. It relating to “Form Beauty”, “Sense Beauty” and “Sound Beauty”(形美,音美,意美).
2.3 English Version and Their Translation Studies Abroad
2.3.1 English Version
    The English version of Li Qinghai’s Ci-poems abroad can be separated into three stages.
1. During the 1940s and 1960s
Through translating, many foreign translators began to introduce Li Qinghai’s Ci-poem to some English-speaking countries .But there are only few pieces of Li’s Ci-poems. In 1949 in Robert Payne’s book The White Pony which is the earliest translation came into being. Translation for 100 Chinese classical Poems by Kenneth Rexroth(王红公) was a symbol for this stage which included seven pieces of Ci-potry by Li Qingzhao.
2. During the 1970s and 1980s
At this stage, there are more Li Qinghai’s poems being translated and introduced to the western world. There are two translation versions were finished. One is Kenneth Rextoth & Chung Ling in 1979. The other was written by James Cryer in 1984. Li Qingzhaoi’s Ci-poems was translated by Rextoth with creation and innovation. 李清照词英译本对比分析(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_34907.html
