His ability to create vivid and symbolic images that embody great moral questions appears strongly in his novels, especially in his masterpiece, The Scarlet Letter, which has been seen as a milestone in American literature history. With its irresistible artistic charm, The Scarlet Letter has conquered thousands of readers all over the world since its publication.
Since The Scarlet Letter has drawn attention of the whole world, from this paper, readers can get a better understanding of the main characters in The Scarlet Letter. Many critics have studied the themes and characterization of this novel from many different perspectives. However, in the previous criticisms, the main characters in The Scarlet Letter have been either praised as being utterly good or criticized as being extremely evil by many critics. The characters are portrayed in a dual perspective, showing their good elements as well as their bad ones, Which leads to their tragedy.
To elaborate this point, we’ll first have a look at Hawthorn’s life experience, which provided literary materials and background for the production of The Scarlet Letter. Then, our focus will shift to character analysis of their dual personality leading to their tragedy. 《红字》中的女性悲剧分析:http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_35008.html
