Abstract Charles Dickens is the most prominent realistic British author in the 19th century. A Tale of Two Cities is one of his masterpieces. The French Revolution is the background of the novel. He was a fierce critic of variety of dark side and social stratification of 19th century, and has made the enormous contribution to British social progress.
As a classic novel, numerous scholars from home and abroad have studied the work from different perspectives. These unitary analysis methods nowadays are more and more persified, and ethical literary criticism is one of the multiplex approaches. Thus this paper aims at studying on A Tale of Two Cities, one of Dickens's most acclaimed works, from the perspective of Ethical Literary Criticism.
This research project consists of five parts. It endeavors to analyze the theme of political ethics and virtue ethics in light of ethical literary criticism and probe into Charles Dickens's ethical views implicated in A Tale of Two Cities .

摘要查尔斯•狄更斯是十九世纪英国最杰出的现实主义作家，《双城记》是他的代表作之一。这部小说以法国大革命为背景。他在小说创作中追求社会批判与伦理道德说教的契合，无情地揭露了英国19世纪的社会矛盾和各种黑暗面，为英国社会的进步做出了贡献。
作为一部传世佳作，世界各地的学者们从不同的视角剖析《双城记》。进入当代，过去那种单一的社会或历史的分析法也开始转向多元化，文学伦理学就是多元分析法之一。本文试图从文学伦理学视角来分析这部小说。
本文由五部分组成。主要以文学伦理学为切入点，研究小说中的政治伦理和道德伦理，从而探寻查尔斯狄更斯的道德使命感和对社会以及人性的深思。
