摘要随着改革开放以及世贸组织的加入，英语新闻报道成为中国与西方国家进行交流的一个主要渠道。同时，了解英语新闻标题的语法特点及翻译策略也成为中国与外部世界交流的一个重要方式。本论文采用文献分析的方法，首先介绍了英语新闻标题的定义以及功能和分类，接着从时态、省略、修辞等方面介绍了英语新闻标题的特点，并指出了中英新闻标题在某些方面的差异，然后探讨了英语新闻标题的翻译策略,包括直译、意译、使用谚语及增词法。本论文的研究有利于提高英语新闻标题翻译的译文质量。49948

 Abstract After enforcing the reform and open policy and joining the World Trade Organization, the English news newspaper naturally becomes a primary method of communication with the western countries. At the same time, in order to communicate with the outside world, it is essential to know the grammatical features and the translation strategies. This paper adopts the method of document analysis. Firstly, it introduces the definition of the English news headlines and the functions and categories of it. Then it discusses the characteristics of the news headlines from certain aspects of tense, omission and rhetorical devices. The next part presents the differences between Chinese and English news headlines in certain ways. The fourth chapter analysizes the translation strategies including the literal translation, free translation, the application of slangs and proverbs and addition. All of these can help to improve the quality of translation of English news headlines.

Newspaper has become a prevalent way to know the outside world for many people. Therefore, newspaper reading is naturally regarded as a daily way to enjoy our rights to know. With the enforcement of the reform and open policy, great changes have taken place in China in recent years. Especially after joining the World Trade Organization, China needs to know the world more and more. For Chinese people, reading newspaper in English is also taken as a way to broaden their horizon, widen the scope of their knowledge and get to know the events in time that are happening now. English news report can be found in our textbooks or magazines and can even exist in the various tests, such as GRE and postgraduate entrance examinations. It can also appear in the listening comprehension and reading comprehension such as TEM4 and TEM8, etc. Therefore, many universities have set up the courses of the English newspaper reading as an optional one, and some universities even take it as a required course. All of these reveal that English newspaper reading is becoming more and more important in our life, and it is widely acknowledged that the headline plays a special and crucial role in the English newspaper. Generally speaking, the English news headline is the title of one piece of news report or an article, and a good headline is characterized by conciseness, attractiveness and has a high degree of generality. Probably for many reasons, it might be difficult for many beginners to understand the English news report at the first glance of the news headline. But if they have a full knowledge of the features and translation strategies of the headlines, it will not be a serious problem for them. However, although many people do researches about the problem, few people can find the practical ways to deal with it. Therefore, this paper discusses the grammatical features and the translation strategies of English news headlines in detail in order to deal with it. First of all, the paper introduces the grammatical features of English news headlines from the aspects of tense, omission, punctuation and rhetorical devices. Then the paper discusses the differences between English and Chinese news headlines from certain aspects. On the basis of those analysis, the paper presents the translation strategies in detail.
