1.3 Research objectives
Nowadays we can find everywhere food product specification both in Chinese and English. Sometimes foreigners don’t understand the meaning of the English information as the translations in English are totally wrong, and they don't know what to buy. So understanding the specifications of food products correctly is the only way for foreigners to buy Chinese food. Because of this, the research aims to analyze the reasons of the mistakes which are made in food product specifications and find the right ways to translate the food product specifications exactly.
1.4 Significance of the study
This research can help people to buy the right food they need with no difficulties. The most important is that, translating the food product specification correctly can attract the foreigners’ attention to buy our Chinese food. This is also helpful to spread Chinese culture and raise the international standing of China.

2.1.1 Katharina Reiss and her theory
Katharina Reiss thinks the function of the text is the most important. We should pay more attention to the function of the text first and think out the corresponding approach second.
