Schleiermacher considered that translators could only choose one way, otherwise then will mix it up and the consequence is the author and readers will never under stand each other. However he was more in fa vor of Foreigni zation.
2.2.1 Definition of Domestication
American translation theorist Lawerence Venuti put forward Domestication and Foreignization in his book The Translators Invisibility——A History Of Translation in 1995. Venuti thought that readers or the target language is the starting point of domestication. ( Venuti, 2008: 78) To localize the original language is usually use the expression which is familiar to the target language readers to transmit the con tent of the original. While the cultural style of original language is not appearance consistent with the target language, the readers of target language will feel strange in reading. Domestication request translation dilutes the cultural style of original language and draw close to target language. In addition, translators need to regard the target readers as the final destination and help target readers to experience and comprehend. So that the content and the form must be translated within the bounds of target readers’ experience.文献综述
What is called domestication is target readers-oriented when translating. The translation must respect and measure up the reading habits of target readers. Venuti thought that the domestication is taking the attitude of ethnocentrism. The foreign language text need to measure up the cultural values of target readers. Translators need to bring the author into the cultural of target language.
Nida, as the representative of domestication, regarded the target language as the final destination while dealing with the language habits and cultural tradition. (Nida, 2003: 137) That is to say the translation took the target language or readers as the principal and used the traditional sentiment to please the readers.
