1.2 Previous Study on the Chinese Versions of Harry Potter Series 来!自~优尔论-文|网www.youerw.com
Enormous comments on the Chinese versions of Harry Potter series have been made from many sources since the appearance of the Chinese version published by China Literature’s Press. One relevant paper is The Translation of the Nouns in Harry Potter Books and their Meaning Expression of the Pronunciation (Qin Shengyong, 2007: 50-52). By using the achievements in psychological linguistics, this paper proves the natural links between phonetic property and the meaning evoked accordingly and further proposes that the meaning evoked by the phonetic property cannot be neglected in translation. The priority on meaning conveyed by the phonetic property is helpful to the analysis of transliteration in this thesis, but the paper doesn’t make detailed analysis of how the meaning evoked by the phonetic property can be reflected and it doesn’t investigate translators’ thinking patterns.
